Bad Line and More On The Square Back Minnow

In my fishing article from April 4th 2025, THE BACK STORY (The Breaking Point), and my post, THE BREAKING POINT about bad line on April 2nd 2025, I talked about my experience breaking off multiple times.  I realized I was using all “Beyond Braid 8x” on all the rods that broke off with either with year old line or freshly spooled line.  I had some MaxCuatro 20lb on hand and I respooled all those rods with it.

A couple days ago I went back to the same spot where I broke off the big one fishing with my son on April 1st, and tossed a Square Back Minnow around.

Sadly the big one didn’t bite, or if it did it was one I missed, but I did stick one about 3 pounds a few feet away from that spot.  It was the only spot I fished.  Drove right to it, made a few casts, and drove home.

While I still believe the original Stren Super Braid was the best braided line ever, the PowerPro MaxCuatro is the best currently available.  The BeyondBraid doesn’t stand the test of time.  I get year old line being fragile, but if it goes bad on the spool it doesn’t matter how much cheaper it is.  For now I’d sticking with MaxCuatro for all my braided line needs.  I even spent over $600 on a couple bulk spools of MaxCuatro, and I will be throwing away my remaining BeyondBraid.  Another line to watch out for (not in a good way) was FINS.  It looked good.  It was thin and limp like the old Stren Super Braid, but it broke way to easily compared to other braids.  Nope.  For now MaxCuatro for all my braided line needs.
