THE BREAKING POINT
I observed a long time ago that there was a subjective significant difference in strength between ten pound monofilament filament and twelve pound monofilament. In real world applications, twelve pound seems pretty tough, and ten pound needs you to take care of it a little bit.
It never occurred to me that there would be a similar breaking point with braided line. A point where there was a subjective significant difference from a pound test to the next. Well I think there is. I think that point is in the drop from twenty pound braided line to fifteen pound braided line. Twenty pound braided line is pretty darn tough. Sure you can break it and you can abuse a knot and make it fail. But overall it’s pretty good stuff. Fifteen pound needs to be treated gingerly. If anything because it has no stretch and no shock absorbing ability, it breaks easier than ten pound monafilament. At least that’s the excuse. I’m gonna give myself for breaking off an easy five to maybe six pounder last night right at my feet.
