What Happened to The Fishing Reports ???
As you might have noticed the last several articles and write ups have been about shooting or tackle making. I’ve actually been out a couple times since the last fishing report, but they were nothing special. 5-6 fish. Average 2 pounders. Big fish at 2-1/2. I haven’t found an on-fire fall wolf pack, but I saw signs of them packing up in early October. It’s been one off bites here and there. No real patterns. A few on Club-Os. A few on crankbaits. A few on jerk baits, and pretty much anywhere. Main river, backwaters, lower river. It’s all the same for us. One fish other. Another fish over there. I’ll try to do better. I’ve just been so darned busy. Taking care of my mom. Taking care of business. Setting up a couple new CNC machines. Living up to family obligations. I don’t even go fishing if one of my fishing buddies doesn’t ask me to go these days. I’ll try to do better. Both in getting out there and writing about it.
I’ve got a couple “generic-ish” jig mold designs I am working on as well. I’ve been doing so much custom work I’ve had a hard time getting any of my own stuff out there, but here are a couple I am going to try to get cut and tested today. I know not everybody uses my Club-O molds with heavy salt formulas. Some guys use light or no salt, and fish them on a jig. I decided to make some jigs sized for them.
And there is the generic swimbait jig shown as well. Its not quie finished, but I plan to try an updated version of the “Smashed Jack” cast screw lock on it. The heads are pretty generic, but I plan to add an eye socket for a stick/glue on eye to the heads before I cut the mold. Its mostly to test the cast screwlock design, but I figured I’d make it useful as well if it works. The should work well with QD (Quick & Dirty) line of swimbaits, but if it works I’ll probably add a line of “shadish” style split tails flat baits to with them as well. You might not they are modeled with flat eye hooks. That’s so a shaker blade can be added with a split ring easily. I think a flat tail bait on a swimbait head jig with a shakee blade might be just the ticket for people who want to make their own winter baits. I think with the whole thing going back and forth it will look more like a real bait minnow than a paddle tail bait. Of course we will have molds for both types of trailers if this jig works the way I would like.
