1st Run Hauling With the New 2024 F250 FX4
I haven’t got enough miles on my ’24 gasser to really tell, but so far it seems okay. I’ve run almost 900 miles so far. 180 or so towing a Jeep JK on a trailer. I towed it over Telegraph pass and it ran great and held speed going down the long grade. Less than 5000 lbs including the trailer, but I figure it was a good first run to see how it would do. In tow haul mode it stayed in 10th gear most of the run. It averages a little over 12MPG empty, and it was a little under 12 towing the Jeep if you can believe the Ford HUD. For a gas engine that claims over 400 BHP I figure that’s passable. My 2012 (Chevy) gasser service truck that size only got about 9.
I guess that means I should still get around 12 towing the Procraft to the river since the average speed is lower, and the boat weighs less than the Jeep.
They claim it doesn’t “engine brake,” but it has a hill decent assist. It acted like engine braking to me, but what do I know. First automatic I had that would engine brake was the 2007 diesel (16 mpg) Silverado 4×4 I just sold a few weeks ago. I already miss that truck. The guy who bought it told me he is still very happy with it.
Anyway, this new truck is a beast. A thirsty beast, but a beast none the less.
I’m not planning any serious off roading anytime soon, but when it wears out the factory oem tires I’ll probably get some taller and wider all terrain tires on it. That will cost me some mileage. That could be a while though. It actually came with Michelin light truck tires.
