Button Panel Roasted By The Sun – V176 Magnum 2002

A buddy of mine has completely quit fishing and he offered me his 2002 Triton V176 Magnum for very little with its Johnson 90. The carbs were totally gunked up which was no surprise. I’ve cleaned carbs before. This Johnson has something I haven’t seen on other outboards I’ve worked on, but that’s a subject for another post.

The boat has been eaten up by the southwest sun. Carpet is trash, seats are cracked, all the usual things. Nothing I can’t deal with.

There is one thing I’d like to repair first. There is an eggplant shaped button switch panel to the right of the steering wheel that is eaten up by the sun. The plastic has rotted away over the metal membranes, and they have fallen off. The back of it is of course covered in some sort of hardened black tar looking potting compound to “waterproof” the circuit board making it difficult to assess further. I can get out a meter, start tracing stuff out and make my own switch panel, but it will take time. I thought I’d see if a replacement could be sourced first. There are some other switch panels available, but I have not found this one new or used. Being an older pre-BPS/Tracker boat Tracker is of no help.
