Dennis,
I feel your pain there, bud. Most of the reels that we see now, even some names I've been sworn to not disclose, are made out of the HaiWei Factory in China. Some of HaiWei's manufacturing is subbed out to a factory in Taiwan. All this is done to keep costs down.
Because the reel costs are so low, it does not pay for a company to tag, bag, catalog, and store replacement parts. It is actually cheaper for them to simply replace the reels during the warranty period.
What happens after the warranty period has expired? The company hopes that you will have a desire to get the latest and greatest, and not have reservations about buying a new reel. It's a shame, because for the most part, these reels could last for a lifetime. Perform general maintenance and tune-ups, and they'll last forever. However, we find ourselves forced to live in a disposable society. You think reels are whacked, look at the high-tech industry.
I don't know where I'm going with this so much as to say, "Thank You". What you have said in your posts, makes us aware that you are willing to do what you can for your customers, to save their reels. I wish the system would make it easier for you.
Peace,
James
